Iowa Auto Insurance SR22
Reader’s Question:
How long are you required to have SR-22 auto insurance in my state? I live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Daniel
Cedar Rapids, IO
The Iowa Department of Transportation states that future proof of financial responsibility is required from the first day of your suspension or revocation for a conviction, violation or unsatisfied judgment of the OWI law, and lasts for 2 years. Failure to show or maintain future proof of insurance will result in suspension of your license and registrations.
One way to file future proof of financial responsibility is to have your Iowa Authorized insurance carrier file Form SR-22 (Certificate of Automobile Liability Insurance) with the Office of Driver Services.
You will also need to show future proof after a revocation or suspension of your license for convictions or for driving while intoxicated. Future proof is required from the first day of your revocation or suspension and lasts 2 years.

Reader’s Question:
What are some important factors that may affect my car insurance rates in Des Moines, Iowa?
Gerald
Des Moines, IA
According to the Iowa Insurance Division (IID) that factors such as the type of automobile you operate, who the primary driver of the car is and where the automobile is kept can influence your car insurance rates. The main factor though is your driving history.
Additionally, according to the IA insurance commissioner, insurance providers may look at your credit history when you apply for new car or homeowners insurance, or if your current policy is up for renewal. Insurance providers enter information from your credit history and your car insurance application into a credit-scoring computer model to calculate a specific insurance credit score.
Plus, to using credit information, insurance carriers will use other, more traditional rating factors to determine the premium you pay for your car insurance policy. For car insurance some of these traditional rating include: driving record, where you live, type of car you own, as I mentioned earlier.
